Do you offer Medicare rebates?
At this time, Counsellors cannot bill to Medicare so I cannot offer Medicare rebates. What I have done instead is set my rates according to the gap rates for seeing a psychologist, though you are not limited to 10 sessions per annum as you would on a Mental Health Care Plan.
How long does a session last?
Sessions generally last up to 50min, though you can request longer at the time of booking.
Please note, there is no minimum time for a session so if you feel you need less time we can end earlier.
How many sessions do people generally have?
This depends on the needs of the individual and how deep they want to go. Brief interventions are generally 5-10 sessions.
What to expect at the first session?
An initial assessment is undertaken at the first appointment to collaboratively discuss:
1. Your concerns and personal goals that you want to address
2. Initial strategies that you want to begin working on.
How is confidentiality maintained?
At the first session, you will be given a confidentiality and consent form which will be discussed with
you in detail. For the brief version, nothing you discuss in session will be shared with anyone, except where it is legally mandated (e.g. risk of harm to self or others). Anonymous information may be shared during clinical supervision. All clinical documentation is kept in accordance with Australian Privacy Principles to ensure safety.
Do I have to pay for a missed appointment?
Generally, yes. Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice may incur a fee, except in emergencies or compassionate circumstances. This will be explained to you at your first session.
